Pura Vida Tranquil: A Kava Tablet, Explained Before You Buy

by HempSZN on Sep 26, 2026

Pura Vida Tranquil is the evening tablet in the Pura Vida range, and the only one built around kava. Kava is legal, traditional, and carries a genuine safety caution — so read the warnings section before you order, not after.

The basics

  • Format: 5 tablets per bottle, 100 mg each (500 mg per bottle)
  • Sold as: a box of 6 bottles — $65, or $10.83 a bottle
  • Flavors: Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, Watermelon Mint
  • 21+ only

What's in a serving

From FESA Labs sample D90060824-3 (25 August 2026):

  • Kava — 58.74 mg total kavalactones. Dihydrokavain 19.90 mg, kavain + dihydromethysticin 12.64 mg, methysticin 9.17 mg, desmethoxyyangonin 7.40 mg, yangonin 7.36 mg, plus trace flavokawain A and B
  • Lemon balm 136.36 mg
  • Passionflower 90.91 mg, with 1.82 mg passionflower flavonoids
  • L-theanine 90.91 mg
  • Chamomile — apigenin derivatives 1.09 mg
  • Tranquil proprietary blend — undisclosed by the manufacturer

That kavalactone figure is the number that matters, and most kava products on the US market don't state it at all. 58.74 mg per serving sits at the modest end of the range — traditional servings and clinical studies run from a few dozen milligrams into the hundreds.

How to take it

Evening, and not on a night you're drinking. Start with one tablet. Kava can cause drowsiness, so don't take it and then drive.

One practical note: kava's characteristic mouth-numbing comes from the kavalactones, and it's normal, not a fault.

The warnings, in full

The FDA issued a consumer advisory on 25 March 2002 stating that kava-containing supplements may be associated with severe liver injury. Cases included hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver failure, including a US case requiring a transplant. Serious cases appear rare and researchers still debate how many were caused by kava itself — but the advisory stands, and we're not going to bury it three clicks deep.

  • No alcohol. The most repeated caution, and most concerning case reports involve other liver stressors
  • Not if you have liver problems, or take medication that's hard on the liver
  • Stop and see a doctor if you notice yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, unusual fatigue, or pain under the right ribs
  • Don't drive or operate machinery after use
  • Not if pregnant or nursing, and not under 21
  • Ask a pharmacist first if you take sedatives, benzodiazepines, or anything processed by the liver

What's not in it

The same panel screened the full kratom alkaloid list. Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine: non-detect. Kava and kratom get shelved together constantly and they are unrelated plants. The lab report is on our lab results page.

Tranquil or Calming?

If you want the evening product, it's this one. Calming is named misleadingly — it's a turmeric and boswellia joint formula. Compare all three here.
