Cartridge pricing looks arbitrary until you know what drives it. It is not arbitrary — it tracks the extraction method almost exactly.

Two patterns fall straight out of that table.
Pattern one: bigger is cheaper per gram
A 2G cartridge is $10/g. A 6G disposable is $6/g. That is a 40% difference for the same act of buying hemp extract.
The reason is hardware. Every device needs a battery, a coil, a housing, and a box, and those costs barely change between a 2G and a 6G unit. Spread across six grams instead of two, the per-gram hardware cost collapses.
So if you know you like a format, the larger device is straightforwardly better value. The catch is commitment — six grams is weeks of product, and if you do not like it you are stuck with it. Buy small to find out what you want; buy large once you know.
Pattern two: the cartridge looks expensive but is not
A 2G cartridge at $10/g looks like the worst deal on the list. It is not, because you are not paying for the battery again.
Buy a $13 510 battery once and every cartridge after that is pure product. The maths crosses over quickly:
- First purchase: $13 battery + $19.99 cart = $32.99 for 2G
- Every purchase after: $19.99 for 2G
By your third cartridge you are ahead of buying disposables, and you also get voltage control, which a fixed-output disposable will never give you. For live rosin especially, that control is the difference between tasting what you paid for and scorching it.
Why diamond jars cost double
$20/g looks steep next to $6/g until you notice it is not the same product. A 2G diamond jar is raw concentrate for a rig or a dab-capable device — no hardware, no dilution, nothing but the extract. You are buying purity per gram, not convenience.
Price per gram is the wrong comparison anyway
Here is the part most buying guides miss.
A 4G live rosin device and a 3G liquid diamonds device are not competing on price per gram, because they are not the same thing. Liquid diamonds test far higher in total cannabinoids, so each pull does more — meaning a 3G device can outlast a 4G one in practice despite having less in it.
The useful question is cost per session at the intensity you actually want. Rosin can cost more per gram and still be better value if flavor is what you are paying for. Our extraction guide explains what separates them.
What a suspiciously cheap cart is telling you
If you find a gram of "live rosin" for $8, something in that sentence is not true. Solventless extraction produces a fraction of the yield of solvent extraction — that cost is real and it does not disappear. What usually happens is a small percentage of actual rosin blended into a distillate base, sold under the rosin name.
The lab report is the only way to know, and reading one takes five minutes.
